MATTER OF AGES | |||||
Between the ages, without beginning or end, in constant transition: Alexandra Waierstall’s spaces are impossible to pinpoint. Their focus lies on the “in-between” that is characteristic of so many of her works. In “Matter of Ages” she shines a light on the precious metal gold with its special material properties, malleability and ideological significance throughout history. Gold becomes a metaphor for continual change, from darkness to light – and thus a metaphor for movement as well. By means of a delicate, flowing language of movement, the Düsseldorf-based choreographer from Cyprus renders transitions visible and puts the relationship between the moving body and the material of gold centre stage. “The audience is breathless the moment the ensemble lies bare on the floor of the stage. A consistent development culminates in an unbelievable sense of excitement. Her choreography is a sequence of unconventional ideas, her dance an explosion of the senses.” (Michael Zerban, Opernnetz) Alexandra Waierstall studied dance and choreography at the ArtEZ Institute of the Artsin Arnhem. Together with the visual artist Horst Weierstall, she founded THEARTSPACE in Düsseldorf, a project space for moving ideas within the various artistic disciplines. Alexandra Waierstall is currently one of tanzhaus nrw’s Factory Artists. |
