“L'Après-midi d'un faune”, Stéphane Mallarmé's poem, inspired a symphonic work by Claude Debussy, which was created in December 1894, after which Vaslav Nijinski presented a choreographic interpretation that became legendary in 1912. A century later, Raimund Hoghe seized this masterpiece, continuing his fascinating cycle on the history of classical dance pieces (“Sacre - The Rite of Spring” (2004), “Swan Lake, 4 Acts” (2005) and “Boléro Variations” (2007)). For “L'Après-midi”, he gives the dancer Emmanuel Eggermont the formidable privilege of succeeding Nijinski. The result is a remarkable solo, full of vitality and radiance.
“L’Après-midi wholly devotes itself to the gorgeous talent of dancer Emmanuel Eggermont, building a world of gestures with meditative tranquility, equally steeped in the sultriness of Art Nouveau as well as in the formal reflexion of contemporary aesthetics. Hoghe effortlessly takes a leap into history.“ Franz Anton Cramer, Frankfurter Rundschau

Raimund Hoghe was born in Wuppertal. He lives and works in Düsseldorf. From 1980 to 1990, he worked as a dramaturge for Pina Bausch's Tanztheater Wuppertal, which also became the subject matter of two books.. From 1989 onward, he has been working on his own theatre pieces for various dancers and actors. In 1994, he produced his first solo for himself, “Meinwärts”, and, up until now, has presented his repertoire all over the world. Raimund Hoghe was awarded numerous prizes for his works. “L’Après-midi” and “Boléro Variations” were awarded as two of the best performances of the year 2009 by The New-York Times, Time Out and The Wall Street Journal.
