Because I am so gorgeous! The three performers move about in an area rife with conflict, an area of showing and hiding oneself, offering themselves up as objects of observation, trying out forms and formlessness. In “Cheeeese!“, they pose questions about staging oneself and about the manipulation of your own – everyday craft in a stage life, too. Here they start out, trying to change their own images in order to manipulate the audience’s sense of beauty. The system of “beauty“ with its chain reaction of judgement and adaptation demands disruption, leading to idiosyncratic, captivating, and unsettling images.
“Once again, Gudrun Lange scrutinizes phenomena of popular culture, once again she does so with a sense for sensuality, coupled with a sense of humour.... ’Cheeeese!’ is a remarkable piece of work, exciting, somewhat mysterious and, in a certain way, punky.“ Thomas Hag, NRZ

Gudrun Lange received her education in Rotterdam and New York and trained two years with Jennifer Muller. She has been working as a freelance choreographer since 2003, with stints, among others, at the Forum Freies Theater in Düsseldorf. Apart from her work with professionals, she regularly develops plays with young adults as well as working solo. In 2009, she was chosen for the residency programme at the K3 – Zentrum für Choreographie/ Tanzplan Hamburg at Kampnagel, in addition to being a scholarship holder of the Kunststiftung NRW. As such, she did research in Israel and Lebanon.
