In 2012, choreographer Mark Sieczkarek initiated an unusual project. GO UP is meant to be a community project for amateur dancers ages 40 and up. Over the course of nine months, they developed a stage play together. “I strive to find a ‘language‘ marked by simplicity. To find a dance that does justice to everybody and yet manages to grasp the complexity and history of the people involved as well as their bodies.“ Mark Sieczkarek has always dealt with the approximation to pure movement. By eschewing narration or strict positions of content, concentrated movement material emerges that speaks for itself and generates its own content in turn. The alignment of this reductional process with the movement codes of amateurs and the creation of new forms of physicalness and movement form the core of “Music for a while“.
