COCOONDANCE
ORLANDO - scrapped
Love is not only blind, love also makes you go mad. It is this madness Renaissance poet Ludovico Ariosto immortalized in his literary masterpiece ORLANDO FURIOSO. Choreographer Rafaële Giovanola and composer Jörg Ritzenhoff devote this premiere to the most spectacular episode of the epos and the central core in Ariosts work. In it, the English prince Astolfo undertakes a journey to the moon to find Orlando's lost reason. There, he encounters a parallel world, a mirror world which wants to be rediscovered, about 500 years after its inception, in „ORLANDO - scrapped".
COCOONDANCE was founded by Rafaële Giovanola and dramaturge Rainald Endraß on the occasion of an invitation to the Avignon Off Festival in 2000. Born in Baltimore, USA, Swiss dancer Rafaële Giovanola first worked as a soloist in Turin before being engaged by William Forsythe for an eight year old stint at the Frankfurt Ballett. Following this, she worked with Pavel Mikuláštik's Choreographical Theatre, lastly in Bonn. After the dissolution of the company, she continues the work with her own group, and COCOONDANCE received a permanent residence at Bonn's theaterimballsaal, funded by the city of Bonn and the state of NRW.
