SAMIR AKIKA / RENGADE THEATRE
EXTENDED TEENAGE ERA
Seven actors find themselves in a setting made of slabs of wood, duct tape, and cardboard boxes. They construct their own props during the course of the staging and take care of musical clips, ranging from Schubert and Bob Marley to Justin Timberlake, themselves. They let us participate in their trial to come to grips with their lifes. The play is a fast-paced parcours of questions, answers, games and tasks concerning growing up. All the different vocabularies of movement and expression pertaining to each actor, their different biographies, memories, lifestyles and ideas for their future comprise parts of the whole. Acting and modern dance meet b-boying, popping and locking in a quicksilver parcours through, in and around the Extended Teenage Era.
Samir Akika, choreographer, director and film maker, born in Algeria, grew up in France and studied physics, mathematics and sports before taking up his dance studies at the Folkwang Hochschule in Essen and going on to become a member of the Folkwang Tanzstudio. Akika has been working as a freelance choreographer, mainly in NRW, since 1999.
