Can the flap of a butterfly’s wings in Brazil set off a tornado in Texas? This question was posed by Edward N. Lorenz in 1972 with regard to the unpredictability of long-term effects. The magic as well as the force that emanates from each motion, however small, characterises the action on stage. Every impulse marks a beginning with an infinite number of outcomes: brief encounters evolve into complicity, a single sound turns into music, a casual touch becomes a dance. Everything is interconnected, each of our movements has an impact and triggers different consequences. For the performers, this results in a balancing act between impending chaos and the sensory power to see, hear and perceive impulses –and thus to dance.
