Since 2008, Overhead Project has developed works on the cusp of contemporary dance, circus and performance art. By intertwining various physical techniques as well as dramaturgical and architectural concepts, the ensemble opens up new perspectives – always accompanied by certain physical risks. The same is true for its latest production “Circular Vertigo”, which deals with the geometric shape of the circle: in this circular setting, dancer Mijin Kim encounters a 100 kg gymnastics apparatus (a pommel horse) suspended from the ceiling. With skilful virtuosity, human and object learn to negotiate their relationship through gentle approaches, dangerous tumbling and triumphant flights of fancy.
