In which areas of life do we find ourselves constantly butting up against the limits of socially acceptable behaviour? In this production, HARTMANN and MUELLER reflect on this question – separately. Each in his own solo. MUELLER’s performance revolves around the concept of otherness as well as the relationship between the materiality of individual body-based identities and socially constructed gender roles. His body undergoes transformations – it is processed, dissected and repeatedly reassembled until it spans much more than the binary categories of “man” and “woman”. HARTMANN, on the other hand, takes a casual yet remarkably existential look at failure. Although the concept of trial and error is a tried and tested method in science, failing to reach a goal is not commonly met with acceptance in everyday life. But what holds true for science should most definitely apply to art as well – that is HARTMANN's motto.
