A cooperation project of Festival tanz nrw 19 and NRW KULTURsekretariat.

The project Sprungbrett <> Tanzrecherche NRW has once again enabled young artists and recent North Rhine-Westphalian art academy graduates to research, develop and experiment! Through intense research residencies at the North Rhine-Westphalian dance centres PACT Zollverein in Essen and tanzhaus nrw in Düsseldorf, they have had the opportunity to take an in-depth look at choreographic practices and specific themes without production development pressure. The artists will present the latest results of their research in a studio showing before sitting down to discuss their ideas and findings with audience members. Two collectives were selected to participate:

Bahar Gökten / Viola Luise Barner / Lin Verleger

In urban dance culture, physical contact is often missing. In this type of choreography, bodies are aligned in rows, either side by side or one behind the other – dancers use each other as a springboard for acrobatic elements or manipulate each other with feigned impulses. But what would happen if they allowed these impulses to reach them? If they were willing to engage in a give and take and endure the other’s load?

Viola Luise Barner, Lin Verleger and Bahar Gökten have their roots in the dance style breaking. Inspired by their individual experiences and united by their keen interest in examining the interface between urban and contemporary dance, these three have now joined forces for their first collective (physical) research endeavour.

Amanda Romero Canepa / Greta Salgado Kudrass / Constanza Ruiz Campusano

These three dancers have concentrated their research on dance traditions and physicality in specific cultural contexts as well as on various expressions of human aggression. Their key focus: Bolivian Tinku dance. To be able to examine this ritual dance authentically, they experienced the Tinku during Bolivian Carnival as part of a “Fraternidad” (“fraternity”).

Amanda Romero Canepa, Greta Salgado Kudrass and Constanza Ruiz Campusano are graduates of the Centre for Contemporary Dance at the Cologne University of Music and Dance. All three artists are interested in sociological-cultural, ritualistic components and the communicative impact of dance and movement.
